Even though Carl has a degree in construction management, he still lives in the “shiny shacks” of Rose Valley. He suffers from depression and explores what it means to be a brown man in South Africa. “Black tax” takes its toll too, with the sacrifices he has to make for his family and community. Carl’s challenges are strikingly portrayed with rap and poetry. The script was originally presented as reading theatre at the KKNK’s Teksmark Oudtshoorn in 2021.
