Ouma comes from Garies and like most people from that part of the world, she is a formidable woman. You don’t grow up with luxuries like beating around the bush in the Knersvlakte. She has had to bury two husbands, but her neighbours suspect that the last one just dosed off. With her granddaughter now working in the city, she has to visit now and then, and Ouma realises there are many things she does not know. As it turns out, “tact” is one of them.
