Afrikaans vir almal

Made possible by Die Burger, presented in collaboration with Son

WITH Merlyn van der Rheede Project Manager at the Afrikaanse Taalraad), Dr Diana Ferrus (renowned writer and poet) and Eugene Shitikulu (working in the media industry) FACILITATOR Jody Hendricks

More people now speak Afrikaans than ever before, even inkommers. You can visit any Chinese shopping complex these days and you will find at least one Chinese person who speaks Afrikaans. There are even Somalis who speak Afrikaans and work as interpreters in court. There are so many people who embrace the language, we also see it on social media. The panel discusses Afrikaans as a language for everyone, the different varieties of the language and how Afrikaans differs from region to region.
